under the hood
Andreas Somogyi's journey from a young boy sketching cars to an acclaimed artist and fabricator mirrors the very cars he adores: bold, dynamic, and always moving forward. His initial foray into art began with simple car outlines, a seed that grew during his studies at Centennial Academy in Montreal, where he honed his unique ability to capture the spirit of automobiles on canvas. Despite a hiatus from art to explore the hands-on world of automotive work, even wbecoming a certified welder, his creativity never ceased.
Today, Andreas translates the thrill of speed and the roar of engines onto his canvases, creating large and small-scale paintings that capture cars in breathtaking motion. His work, characterized by vibrant colors and dynamic lines, seeks to place viewers in the driver's seat, experiencing the raw emotion and energy of racing. Andreas’ art is not just seen; it's felt - a tribute to a lifelong journey fueled by passion and creativity.
His dream drove him from Canada to California, the heartland of automotive innovation, where his skills flourished in various tuning facilities. Andreas's career took a turn into television, where he spent over a decade on "Overhaulin’" on The Discovery Channel, working alongside top fabricators including Chip Foose and becoming Lead Fabricator. This experience, combined with drawing and painting sessions with his daughter KiKi, rekindled his artistic fire.
